"TELA UMBRA" UMBRIAN FABRIC WORKSHOP
The "Tela Umbra" workshop was created in 1908 on the initiative of Barons Alice and Leopoldo Franchetti and aimed to improve the lifestyle of the countryside by making a collective organisation and creating better qualification's for the women who worked there, whose hand-weaving, for many years worked to satisfy the family's clothing needs. The worker's children were looked after in the nearby kindergarten, a real model of "ante-litteram" social service. Since then, many weaver generations have kept alive the tradition creating even today. very high level products. The continuing research for beauty together with the high quality yarn are the distinguishing signs of "Tela Umbra". Pure linen fabrics, tablecloths, bath towels, handkerchiefs, blankets, carpets and other decorative items are always inspired by the past and a variety of places, always matching the taste of those who are searching for something different; the colours are made using natural components. Fabrics born from the weaver's experience and ability create a unique product in Italy. A rich Collection of Fabrics is displayed in the beautifully renovated rooms inside the Palazzo Bourbon, a continuing testament to local history which is still alive today.
