Hall
19, 20 From the Sixteen Hundreds to the Eighteen Hundreds
These
two halls are still in the process of organization due to the poor condition
of most of the painting from this period. Only after their having been
restored will it be possible to set up these halls in a definitive way. In
the future the paintings of the 19th century will be placed on exhibition in
an area of the museum that has not yet been prepared. The main attraction of
hall XIX is the work of two local painters of the 17 th century, Giovan
Battista Pacetti and Giovan Ventura Borghesi. The former, who began working
in the first part of the century based his style on the baroque which
predominated in Rome during the first three decades of the century. The
latter, who worked until the beginning of the 18th century was a faithful
follower of Pietro da Cortona.
Hall
XX house a number of paintings which in style are very different one from
another. There is the "Domine Quo Vadis" by Francesco Mancini, a
painting of fine quality in the classical style of the sixteen hundreds
which served various artists as a point of departure for the development of
18th century neo-classicism.
Noteworthy are: "Mary with Baby Jesus" by Tommaso Conca, 19th
century, in neo-classical style; "The portrait of Cappoleone Guelfucci"
by Vincenzo Chialli, 19th century, in hybrid neo-classical romantic style
with 17th century Florentine overtones; "The portrait of Giuseppe Chialli"
in his studio by the Roman painter Alessandro Capalti, early 19th century,
in hybrid neo-classical romantic style; "Mary with Baby Jesus and Saints
Eligio and Lucia" by Vincenzo Barboni, a very conventional 19th century
painting.
